Engine

PixiJS renders everything, and PixiJS 3D (in beta) brings the planets, the black hole and the ships into three dimensions.

Planets

The pixel-art planet, star and black hole shaders began as Deep-Fold’s Pixel Planet Generator (MIT licence), by way of the Tile Based Worlds planet editor, where they were converted specifically for use with PixiJS. They were then ported to WebGPU and wrapped around real spheres here.

Ships

The ships you fly in Explore are from the Spaceships pack by Wildenza.

Star systems

This site makes use of the NASA Exoplanet Archive, which is operated by the California Institute of Technology, under contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under the Exoplanet Exploration Program. Solar System figures are from NASA’s planetary fact sheets.
